PARAPHRASE TELEGRAM from the Governor of Hongkong to the

Secretary of State for the Colonies.

(Received Colonial Office 6.10 p.m. 12th October, 1917)

I am forwarding on October 25th by despatch an

application on behalf of powerful syndicate which it is

proposed to form here for prospecting and mining rights

in Kuangtung Province for coal and other minerals.

I would venture to ask for His Majesty's Government's

strong support as soon as possible after receipt of my

despatch as there is reason to believe that other

applications are being made. Telegram repeated to His

Kajesty's Ambassador Peking and copy of my despatch

also sent to him.

MAY.
